MOUNTAIN VIEW (BCN) — The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office has identified an 18-year-old man killed in a car crash on state Highway 85 in Mountain View early Sunday morning.
Joel Godinez-Avila was the driver in a solo car crash reported on northbound Highway 85 south of El Camino Real around 5:10 a.m. Sunday, California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel said.
Godinez-Avila was driving a 2013 Toyota north on the freeway at an unknown speed and lost control of the vehicle, which veered right and went off of the roadway, Montiel said.
The vehicle crashed into a large tree and sound wall before it came to rest on its wheels on the shoulder, according to Montiel.
Emergency crews pronounced Godinez-Avila dead at the scene, Montiel said.
Investigators are working to determine if drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash, he said.
