ANTIOCH (BCN) — A 37-year-old Antioch man died this morning after the vehicle he was driving struck a raised concrete barrier on state Highway 4 causing it to overturn several times, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At 10:57 a.m., the CHP responded to a report of a traffic accident in the highway’s eastbound direction, just east of L Street, according to CHP officials.

The victim was driving a 2003 Chevy Tahoe at an unknown speed when for an unknown reason his vehicle swerved and crossed into the center median, CHP officials said.

The vehicle then struck the raised barrier and overturned several times. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and landed in the center median, according to CHP officials.

The vehicle continued to roll and eventually stopped on its wheels in the center median.

The driver, identified as Derrick Joseph, was taken to a hospital where he died, CHP officials said.

An adult passenger was also taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, according to CHP officials.
