SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Officer has identified a man killed by gunfire from an AK-47 rifle has been identified.

53-year-old James Collins was killed Sunday night after being shot in the city’s Bayview District.

Collins was originally reported by the police department to be 63-years-old, but the medical examiner’s officer has confirmed that he was 53.

Police said that it appears that Collins was at the intersection of Third Street and La Salle Avenue around 10:40 p.m. Sunday when he was shot.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Police think that two men were involved in the shooting, but officers have not identified or arrested anybody.

A motive for the shooting also remains under investigation.

Investigators were able to determine that Collins was hit with gunfire from an AK-47 rifle, but have not said whether they have located the weapon.
