OAKLAND (BCN) — A pedestrian was critically injured after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in West Oakland on Thursday night, police said today.

Officers were dispatched at 9:35 p.m. to the 3400 block of San Pablo Avenue on a report of a pedestrian hit by a car.

The pedestrian, a man, was walking across San Pablo Avenue in a crosswalk when a black sedan that was traveling south hit him, according to preliminary information from police.

The driver left the area without checking on the condition of the pedestrian.

Firefighters and paramedics responded and the man was taken to a hospital.
