SANTA CRUZ (KRON)–A 58-year-old man was struck and killed by a car in downtown Santa Cruz Tuesday night, police said.

The collision was reported around 8:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Front Street near Laurel Street, according to police.

Officers found the pedestrian on the northbound side of Front Street. Emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene, according to police. His name has not been released.

The man was not using a crosswalk when he ran across the street and was hit by a blue Toyota RAV4 traveling south.

Witnesses say the man was not looking out for oncoming traffic as he rushed out in front of a large white truck.

A 25-year-old Mountain View woman was driving the blue Toyota. She pulled over and stayed at the scene.

She was not arrested or cited for the collision, authorities said.
