HAYWARD (KRON) — A man died after being hit by an Amtrak train in Hayward on Sunday night, according to the Alameda County coroner’s bureau.
The train hit the man around 10 p.m. on the railroad tracks near Newhall Street and Huntwood Avenue, officials said.
Train No. 748 from San Jose to Sacramento had 19 passengers on board and none of the passengers or crew were hurt, Amtrak spokesman Mike Tolbert said.
It is unclear why the man was on the tracks, Tolbert said.
The train was back underway at 12:11 a.m.
The identity of the man has not yet been released by the coroner’s bureau.
