A 30-year-old man was fatally struck on state Highway 1 in unincorporated Santa Cruz County near Davenport Landing Beach on Sunday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian, whose name has not yet been released, was hit at about 9:25 p.m. by a 30-year-old woman who was driving a Fiat 500 north on Highway near Cement Plant Road, CHP officials said.

The driver stopped and called 911 to report that she had hit the man in the roadway. The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:48 p.m., according to the CHP.

The driver was not injured in the collision. A 36-year-old woman in the passenger seat suffered cuts to her hands from broken glass but did not go to a hospital, CHP officials said.

The cause of the collision is under investigation but drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors, according to the CHP.
