SOUTH SAN JOSE (KRON) — A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in South San Jose on Tuesday.
Amtrak officials announced to passengers aboard Train #11 Coast Starlight of the fatality and delays.
Around 10:15 a.m., the train struck a trespasser about five miles south of San Jose near a Caltrain station, where Amtrak does not stop.
A male wearing headphones was trespassing on the tracks and was hit and killed by the train, according to an Amtrak passenger.
The max speed through the area is 79 mph but there are no details yet of how fast the train was traveling at the time.
The train traveling from Seattle to Los Angeles, was leaving San Jose and is now stopped at Monterrey Highway and Fahren Drive in South San Jose by the Caltrain Capitol Station.
There were no injuries to the 275 passengers and crews on board.
No other trains were affected.
As of around 2:26 p.m., the train is back in service.
The coroner’s investigation is complete.
