SAN JOSE (BCN) — A 37-year-old man fatally shot in San Jose last week was an economics professor at many South Bay community colleges.
David Moglen, a San Jose resident, was the victim of a shooting reported in the area of Willow and South First streets just after 10 p.m. Thursday, police said.
Moglen was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Since 2004, Moglen taught economics at Evergreen Valley College in San Jose and Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, according to his LinkedIn profile.
He also taught for four months in 2005 at De Anza College in Cupertino and Mission College in Santa Clara from 2001 to 2005, according to the profile.
“Professor Moglen was highly regarded and respected by his peers and his students. He will be fondly remembered by those of us at EVC for the care and respect with which he treated his students,” Evergreen Valley College president Henry Yong said in a statement Monday.
“Students have shared that he was an inspirational instructor and an outstanding teacher and lecturer. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time,” Yong said.
Moglen was an adjunct instructor with an expertise in macroeconomic and microeconomic theory, San Jose-Evergreen Community College District spokesman Ryan Brown said.
Evergreen Valley College has support services available for students and employees to help cope with Moglen’s death, Brown said.
Foothill College officials announced Moglen’s passing on its Facebook and Twitter accounts on Monday afternoon.
Foothill College is providing grief counseling Tuesday and Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Student Resource Center, school officials said.
Detectives haven’t made any arrests or released any suspect information in connection with the fatal shooting, which is the city’s 29th homicide this year, police said.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call police detectives McDonald or Smith at (408) 277-5283. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at (408) 947-7867.
