SALINAS (BCN) — A man is dead after a shooting in Salinas late Friday night, according to police.

Police said officers responded to the 700 block of Garner Avenue just before 11:30 p.m. on reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a 37-year-old man suffering from several gunshot wounds. They attempted to provide CPR, however medical personnel arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.

An investigation revealed the victim had walked out to his vehicle to retrieve something, when he was approached by at least two suspects who pulled out handguns and fire multiple rounds at him.

Police said after the shooting the suspects may have fled, either on foot or in a vehicle, heading eastbound on Garner Avenue.

According to police, the victim was not a gang member and the motive for the shooting was unknown and under investigation. His identity is being withheld until next of kin has been notified.
