WALNUT CREEK (BCN) — A 55-year-old man died in a crash into a parked car in Walnut Creek on Saturday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At 9:06 p.m., CHP officers responded to Boulevard Way and Saranap Avenue on reports of a crash involving a Toyota Corolla that had hit a parked Honda minivan.

CHP officials said the 55-year-old man driving the Toyota, identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as Walnut Creek resident Patrick Kelley, was the only occupant of either vehicle at the time of the crash.

Kelley failed to negotiate the curved roadway before slamming head-on into the parked minivan. Emergency personnel arrived and attempted to provide medical aid, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials said.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor in the collision, according to the CHP.
