Man dies after car bursts into flames on Stanley Boulevard near Pleasanton

UPDATE: The crash has been cleared and the road has reopened, but drivers should still expect heavy traffic.

Pleasanton (KRON) — A fatal accident on Stanley Boulevard in Pleasanton Wednesday afternoon has killed at least one person.


Two cars were involved in the accident. The motorist died while trapped in a vehicle that caught fire after crashing on the road between Pleasanton and Livermore, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Stanley Boulevard is a busy commute route between Pleasanton and Livermore. All lanes East and Westbound are closed. There is no estimated time of reopening.KRON4 Traffic Real Time Traffic Maps

The CHP received a report that two vehicles were involved in a collision at 1:22 p.m. on Stanley Boulevard between Valley and Isabel avenues in unincorporated Alameda County. One vehicle, a Honda sedan, was on fire with its sole occupant trapped inside, CHP officials said. The man later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officer Derek Reed said preliminary information indicates that the man was driving on westbound Stanley Boulevard when he attempted to make a U-turn, turning into the path of a Jetta traveling on the road’s eastbound side.

Reed said the cars collided and the Honda burst into flames.

The male driver in the Jetta was not reportedly injured in the crash, Reed said.

At 1:44 p.m., the CHP issued a Sig-alert warning motorists that Stanley Boulevard was closed in both directions.

Shortly before 3 p.m., Reed said just the road’s eastbound side was closed.
