SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A motorcyclist died early Friday morning after he was ejected from his motorcycle following a collision on the Bay Bridge.

Around 2:15 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers responded to a report of a collision on the eastbound Interstate Highway 80, near the Treasure Island off-ramp.

A female was driving a Nissan Altima in one of the bridge’s middle lanes when, for an unknown reason, she rear-ended a motorcycle traveling in front of her, CHP spokesperson Officer Vu Williams said.

The impact of the collision caused to motorcyclist to be ejected from the motorcycle.

The victim, believed to be in his late 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.

The driver of the Nissan stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to Williams.

The CHP closed three eastbound lanes on the Bay Bridge for more than two hours as they investigated the collision. All lanes have since reopened.

The CHP will continue to investigate the incident to determine what caused the driver to collide into the motorcyclist.
