Authorities say a man is in critical but stable condition Monday after he was reportedly attacked by a dog in Daly City.

According to the Daly City Police Department, officers responded to the 900 block of Schwerin Street on a report of a loose dog attacking someone.

At the scene, officers observed a dog who was actively attacking a man in an isolated backyard.

This is when officers fired their weapons at the animal because they feared for the man’s safety, officials said.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he is in critical but stable condition.

At this time authorities are interviewing the owner of the dog involved.

Officials say there is no threat to public safety at this time.
