REDWOOD CITY (KRON) — A man was found guilty of murder for killing his new friend in a dispute over $10 on Tuesday.

20-year-old Timothy Guerra had moved from Turlock to Belmont and became friends with 19-year-old Denis Meshchyshyn through mutual acquaintances.

About a month later, Guerra became angry when he gave Meshchyshyn $10 for a ride but Meshchyshyn never followed through, prosecutors said.

The following day, on April 25, 2015 at about 7:30 p.m., Guerra found out that Meshchyshyn was meeting with friends in the parking lot behind a Wendy’s restaurant in Belmont at 698 Ralston Avenue, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

Guerra went to the Wendy’s and stabbed Meshchyshyn multiple times in the abdomen and back.

Meshchyshyn was taken to Stanford Hospital but later died.

Guerra fled back to Turlock but was arrested there a few days later, on April 29.

Guerra faces between 15 and 16 years in prison when he is sentenced.

Guerra is due back in court on September 16 where Judge Leland Davis will determine whether to allow him a new trial.
