Man convicted of domestic violence faces up to a year in county jail

SALINAS (BCN) — A man was found guilty by a jury in a Salinas courtroom Thursday of misdemeanor domestic violence and possessing a gun illegally, Monterey County prosecutors said.

Salinas resident Marco Luquin, 38, was arguing with his wife on Dec. 29, 2015, about some unwanted people in their home.

Luquin’s wife told her husband she wanted the people to leave, which enraged him, according to prosecutors.

Luquin took out his anger by hitting his wife in the face with a paintbrush and grabbing her throat and applying pressure.

A short time later, Luquin let go and left the home, prosecutors said.

The next day, Luquin returned, got into another argument with his wife and became enraged again when she asked him to leave.

Again he grabbed her by the neck and pushed her toward a door, according to prosecutors. Luquin held her there despite more than one request by her to let her go.

Luquin left the home when his daughter called 911.

Police arrested Luquin on Jan. 2. He was found with a gun with a serial number that was unreadable.

Prosecutors said that makes the gun illegal.

Luquin faces up to a year in the county jail when he is sentenced July 26. He was acquitted of felony domestic violence, prosecutors said.
