MELISSA, Texas (AP) – A Dallas-area man whose 6-month-old daughter died after she was left in a hot minivan parked outside the family home has been charged with manslaughter.
Michael Thedford was booked into the Collin County Jail after the grim Tuesday afternoon discovery and was released on $20,000 bond later in the day.
The 33-year-old father’s jail record lists no attorney.
Capt. Jim Moody of the Collin County Sheriff’s Department says when deputies arrived around 1:30 p.m. they found the child removed from the car but unresponsive. The family lives in Melissa, about 40 miles north of Dallas.
The National Weather Service reports the temperature at the nearby McKinney National Airport had risen to the low 90s but felt like the upper 90s by that time.
