ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) – A Michigan man who allegedly poured acid on the face and chest of his girlfriend was charged on Thursday.

Gregory Alan Marsman, 53, was charged in an Allegan County courtroom Thursday afternoon with torture, home invasion, assault and third offense domestic violence. As a habitual offender, he can face up to life in prison for each felony charge. His bond was set at $100,000.

“There is a little place for him in hell. You don’t do that with anybody. It’s an awful way to disfigure someone,” said the victim’s son, Keith Nemith. “She didn’t deserve any of this.”

Police say 54-year-old Sheryl Keech returned to the 66th Street home she shared with Marsman Wednesday morning around 2:00 to find him destroying the inside of the house. When Keech confronted him, Keech’s family says Marsman threw acid on her. They say she tried to run, but was tackled, knocked to the ground and Marsman began pouring acid on her face and chest.

Investigators said Marsman was allegedly making statements about the Keech’s son being possessed. “Demonic” letters were also found in Marsman’s bedroom.

“I denounce God and have accepted Satan,” read writing on the cover of a Bible. Another message was left written on the front of the fridge.

After the attack, Keech ran across the street to a neighbor’s house for help. She was taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital where she is being treated. According to her family’s GoFundMe page, she is currently on a ventilator and feeding tube, fighting for her life.

Doctors are concerned she may be blind. It will take a couple days to learn the full extent of her injuries. Keech’s family says she’s a loving mother and grandmother of seven who loves life.

Marsman is scheduled to be back in court on March 24.
