SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Police in San Francisco are investigating two threats against officers that was called in late Wednesday night, according to an official with the department.
A man called the Ingleside Police Station as well as dispatch around 9:45 p.m. stating that he would offer a $15,000 reward for anyone who murders an SFPD Officer, authorities said.
“An anonymous male voice on the phone and he spoke to someone at the station in which he offered $15,000 to anyone that killed a police officer from Ingleside station or any officer,” said San Francisco police officer Giselle Talkoff.
Around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, a similar call came into San Francisco police dispatch making the same threat.
“We take every threat we receive extremely seriously and we don’t take it lightly,” Talkoff said.
This threat comes after a suspect was arrested Tuesday in connection to an ongoing investigation regarding a reported threat against San Francisco’s Acting Chief of Police, Toney Chaplin.
The suspect, Donald Eric Hoganson, allegedly sent out a tweet calling for Chief Chaplin to be beheaded.
“Every time an officer puts on their uniform and hits the streets, they know there’s a potential threat out there,” said former San Francisco police chief Tony Ribera.
Ribera says the fear factor coupled with strategies for self-defense are something all law enforcement officers deal with on a regular basis, but he says the murder of police officers in Dallas heightens the concern, especially when there are direct threats.
No arrest has been made in the case.
