A man attempted to lure a 12-year-old girl into his car as she was walking home from school Thursday afternoon.

According to Concord police, the incident happened around 2 p.m. in the 5200 block of Clayton Road.

The girl was walking home from school when a man in a car started following her, officers said.

The victim told investigators that it appeared the suspect was holding a beverage in his hand.

She said he yelled in a slurred voice, “‘Let me give you a ride.'”

Offices said she ran across the street into a nearby business where she called her mother.

Police described the suspect vehicle as a black 4-door sedan with tinted windows. The vehicle has oxidized paint.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s, with short wavy black hair, a trimmed beard, medium build and last seen wearing a white T-shirt.

Less than a mile away and about 45 minutes later a similar incident occurred.

Police said a 15-year-old girl was approached by a man driving down Bassett Drive near Boxer Blvd.

Authorities said the man asked to help carry her books and made lewd comments about her body.

The incident rattled the nerves of some residents in the quiet neighborhood.

“It’s scary, I wouldn’t imagine it’s from somebody around here,” Barry Nesmith said. “I think that kind of stuff probably happens everywhere but it’s scary when it happens nearby”

Concord police are working to determine if the driver in the second incident matches the description of the man who followed the 12-year-old girl.
