SUISUN CITY (BCN)– Suisun City police arrested a man for allegedly trying to steal a police rifle from an open patrol car early Tuesday morning.

Officers were looking for a disabled woman who was reported missing in the 800 block of Sunset Avenue around 12:15 a.m. When the officers spotted the woman, they got out of their vehicles and walked with her toward her residence, Sgt. Daniel Healy said.

While they were out of their vehicles, the woman’s brother ran up to the officers to report a man was trying to steal an assault rifle from one of the patrol cars, Healy said.

The officers ran back to their vehicles and saw a man they recognized as Tyrone Terry, a 35-year-old Suisun City resident.

Terry was standing near the open door of a patrol car, holding the butt of the rifle. The officers drew their weapons and ordered him to release the rifle, Healy said.

Terry ran between two cars but was captured by another officer. He was arrested for attempted theft of a police rifle, vandalism to the rifle lock, resisting arrest, illegal possession of a rifle and violation of a domestic violence restraining order, Healy said.

Terry damaged the rifle lock and its mounting bracket, but the lock still prevented him from freeing the rifle, Healy said.
