SALINAS (BCN) — A 45-year-old man was arrested Friday night in Salinas after the van he was driving struck a 61-year-old pedestrian, police said Saturday.

Officers responded at 9:05 p.m. to the collision at the intersection of Bardin and Williams roads.

The victim suffered several broken bones and serious head trauma and is in a hospital in stable but critical condition, according to police.

Witnesses told police the driver of the van left the area. Witnesses showed officers where they last saw the van and officers found it and its alleged driver Felipe Franco in the 1500 block of Del Monte Avenue.

Police said Franco showed signs of DUI. Officers arrested him on suspicion of DUI and felony hit-and-run and booked him into the county jail.
