A 21-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly driving a white convertible Mustang in an illegal sideshow on the Bay Bridge Sunday morning.

The white Mustang is now sitting in a storage garage after being impounded following his arrest. Officers took 21-year-old Gabriel Rene Mora, of Stockton, into custody.

“There were several vehicles which crossed the Bay Bridge that may have been involved in sideshow activity,” California Highway Patrol Sgt. Cruz Correa said.

However, before those vehicles got on the Bay Bridge, the CHP was given a head’s up that some drivers in Oakland involved in this sideshow in the now-shuttered Wal-Mart parking lot may be heading to San Francisco.

“We try to share as much information as possible, especially CHP to CHP, so our officers set up to monitor the parties coming across that were associated with the sideshow in Oakland,” Sgt. Correa said.

Sgt. Correa says Mora’s vehicle was disabled during the sideshow after a solo collision on the bridge.

He was the proverbial sitting duck when the CHP arrived.

“Well, in this particular occurrence, the vehicle, like you said, became disabled, so we were able to get through traffic and catch up to the party,” Sgt. Cruz said. “In other cases, what we try to do is set officers up in strategic locations in advance of parties partaking in this behavior and try to apprehend people in that way.”

Mora is facing several charges, including reckless driving, driving while unlicensed, motor vehicle speed contest, delaying, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and providing false information.

His Mustang is on a 30-day hold at the impound at a cost of $80 a day, plus a $291 dollar tow fee.

The CHP would like to make room for sideshow vehicles in the garage.

“If anybody has any information about this particular event, we encourage them to forward that information to the San Francisco CHP Officer,” Sgt. Correa said.
