SALINAS (BCN) — Police in Salinas on Friday arrested a man out on bail in connection with several crimes including possession of a handgun, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a dismembered hawk.
Raul Gonzalo Tapia, 38, was arrested on suspicion of gun, narcotic, stolen property and fish and game violations, police said.
Tapia had been out on bail for a previous weapons arrest in June.
On Friday, officers with the Salinas Police Department assisted the California Highway Patrol on a traffic stop conducted on Tapia. During a search of Tapia’s vehicle, officers located a semi-automatic Glock pistol, police said.
Officers also located a loaded magazine in Tapia’s pants pocket, as well as more than 16 grams of methamphetamine and a small amount of cocaine.
During a subsequent search of Tapia’s residence, investigators located a stolen California Department of Corrections ballistic vest and a small amount of methamphetamine, according to police.
A dismembered hawk was located in Tapia’s freezer. The hawk’s head had been removed from the body and wrapped in a towel along with the talons and winds, police said.
