RICHMOND (BCN) — Police arrested a man and recovered firearms after a vehicle pursuit from Richmond to Berkeley and back again on Sunday night, according to a Richmond police lieutenant.
The pursuit began at about 9:35 p.m., when officers encountered a vehicle thought to be involved in a Richmond shooting, Lt. Andre Hill said.
There was an increased presence of investigators patrolling the area as a response to several recent shootings, Hill said.
When police attempted to pull over the vehicle, which had three occupants, the car fled, according to Hill.
Police chased the vehicle as it traveled on Interstate Highway 80 to Berkeley and then went back the other way on the highway to Richmond, Hill said.
When the car entered Interstate Highway 580 headed west, California Highway Patrol officers took over the pursuit, Hill said.
The pursuit was terminated in Point Richmond after officers lost sight of the vehicle, but police later located the vehicle in North Richmond, Hill said.
The vehicle was unoccupied but police saw a suspect fleeing on foot. That suspect, who police later identified as 26-year-old Quincy Burton, was taken into custody.
Burton was arrested on suspicion of evading police and possession of firearms, related to two guns that were allegedly tossed out of the vehicle during the pursuit.
Hill said the other two occupants of the vehicle are still at large. No description of the suspects was immediately available.
