PACIFICA (KRON)—Police have arrested a man who is accused of sexually assaulting a young girl for over a year in Pacifica.

Police began their investigation in June after hearing reports of the sexual assault.

Through their investigation, police identified Pedro Diaz Morales, 36, as a suspect.

The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office worked with the police department to obtain a arrest warrant for Morales in $8 million for 60 counts of sexual assault.

Detectives found Morales left the country and possibly went to his hometown of Chipas, Mexico.

Local authorities began working with the U.S. Marshal’s Service and law enforcement to find Morales.

On Tuesday, Morales surrendered and was taken into custody.

The Pacifica Police Department is working with law enforcement to bring Morales back to San Mateo County for a trial.

The investigation is still ongoing.
