Man accused of peeping in UC Berkeley restroom identified

BERKELEY (KRON) — After a nearly four month investigation, a man accused of peeping in a UC Berkeley restroom is now identified and facing charges.

Police said Joseph Barbir, a former university employee, was spying on women, police said. A camera was found in a residence hall restroom back in May.

Investigators said at least 100 victims were secretly recorded. Campus police also believe he used signs directing women to the specific restroom.

He is facing more than two dozen counts of invasion of privacy with a camera.

Police said at least two of the victims were minors.
