SANTA CLARA COUNTY (KRON) — The man accused of killing Sierra Lamar has asked the court to appoint new lawyers to represent him at trial.

Antolin Garcia-Torres said he is frustrated with the slow pace of his case and has asserted his constitutional right to a speedy trial within 60 days. In this case, that means June 21.

The judge will have to decide whether the defendant has met the legal burden to be assigned new lawyers.

If rejected, there are several ways to proceed regarding the timing of the trial.

Current lawyers have been defending Garcia-Torres since he was arrested for allegedly killing Lamar in 2012.

He has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
