FBI agents in California arrested a man they say has been terrorizing grocery stores for months.
“It’s horrible. It’s horrible.”
Shoppers reacting to news that the suspect, a 48-year-old transient named David Lohr, is accused of pouring bleach into grocery store refrigerators and freezers.
Court documents do not name the store, but we did some checking and it turns out Ralph’s acknowledges they were targeted by Lohr.
“These days you don’t know if people are going to do this. It’s ridiculous. I mean you know, just these days you just got to watch everything.”
Investigators say Lohr began his crime spree in December of last year and continued into January.
They say security video shows him dumping the bleach into refrigerators and freezers in stores in Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, and West Hollywood.
In one instance, a customer and her child told a store employee that something was wrong with the ice.
The child was carrying a bag of ice against his chest.
The ice was coated in bleach.
“I’m always a little cautious, but yeah, now I’ll definitely check.”
Ralph’s released a statement saying, “Customer safety is our first priority, and immediate action was taken to remove and destroy any tampered packages. We are grateful that Ralph’s investigators, sophisticated technology, and quick work by law enforcement led to the identification and arrest of the suspect.”
Lohr was tracked down and arrested in Sunnyvale.
Authorities are investigating how many other stores he may have targeted.
