NEW YORK (KRON) — A massive explosion was reported in Manhattan’s East Village Tuesday in what officials are calling a possible building collapse.

The explosion turned into a multi-level fire in the building, which according to officials is comprised of apartments and offices.

Big black plumes of smokes are coming from the windows of the building, while the roof seems to be entirely engulfed.

Reports of injuries are unknown at this time and according to law enforcement some people may still be trapped.

The area surrounding the building, which is described by authorities as heavily trafficked, has been evacuated.

The cause of the explosion is unknown at this time.
