TOKYO (KRON) — A magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck in northern Japan around 2:12 p.m. Pacific time.

Currently, officials say that there is no danger of a tsunami.

According to the United States Geological Service, the quake was centered about 33 kilometers or about 20 miles from Ofunato, Japan.

The Japan Meteorological Agency put the preliminary magnitude at 6.6, the U.S. Geological Service measured it at 6.8.

The offshore quake shook a swath of northeast Japan. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

This earthquake comes just hours after a magnitude 7.3 hit in Nepal, killing dozens.
