(KRON) — A Louisiana hiker is dead after getting swarmed and stung more than a thousand times by bees in Arizona.

Authorities said the victim is a 22-year-old man who was with a friend when the attack happened. The sheriff’s office identified the victim as Alex Bestler of Louisiana.

She managed to run to a bathroom to escape.

Other hikers and park employees saw the victim on the ground covered in bees.

But the bees were so aggressive that they could not approach.

“I’ve been coming out here for many years, and I’ve seen bees and I can hear bees, but I have never had a problem with them personally, and this is the first I’ve heard ever heard of such an attack like this at this park.,” parkgoer Cindy Hinkleman said.

The trail is now closed until officials can track down the bees and figure out what made them hostile.CNN contributed to this report.
