(WFLA) – According to a new study, lonely people are more likely to die from a heart complication.
Researchers used questionnaire data collected from patients with heart problems about their physical and mental health, lifestyle, smoking habits and friendships.
They found loneliness doubled the risk of death for women, and it nearly doubled for men as well.
Both men and women who felt lonely were three times more likely to report being anxious or depressed.
They also recorded their quality of life as significantly lower.
Researchers said friendship was a key indicator of heart problems.
Those who lived alone were more likely to feel lonely and feel like they had no one else to talk to.
