WASHINGTON (KRON) – The lock down on the United States Capitol and all building within its complex due to a security threat has been lifted on Tuesday afternoon.

The loudspeaker on grounds was instructing staff to stay away from windows and doors.

Police sent an email to congressional staff advising them to close nad lock doors and stay away from external doors and windows.

The lock down was lifted around 1:45 p.m. once the security incident resolved.

Officials are still on the scene investigating. It is unclear at this point as to exactly why the Capitol went into lock down.

Police is blocking the main roadway and diverting traffic away from the Capitol.

Both the House and Senate were in session, with House members voting. In the Senate, lawmakers were delivering speeches from the floor.

This incident marks the second time in less than a week that the Capitol has been locked down.
