PLEASANTON (KRON) — A local Bay Area parish and Safeway are pairing up to provide free influenza shots to homeless people in a Bay Area town, Sunday morning.

Our Lady’s Refuge Parish on Lucretia Avenue in San Jose along with Safeway are hosting an event Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m, in an effort to help the homeless community during this flu season.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, influenza affects up to 20 percent of the U.S population each year.

“We have always made the process of getting a flu vaccine affordable and convenient. We especially want to protect those most at risk. This is our third year hosting an offsite clinic in this neighborhood and we’re glad to continue helping protect the communities we serve against the flu,” said Narayanan Ramachandran, Northern California’s Director of Pharmacy Operations.

Everyone who is six months and older is advised to receive the vaccine, and anyone with help complications are advised to do so as well.

Safeway has flu vaccinations available at all of their locations in the Pharmacy section, during normal business hours, seven days a week on a walk-in basis.
