Some news if you live in Alameda — your electric bills are going up!

The city’s Public Utilities Board on Tuesday approved a 2.5 percent overall average rate increase for residential and commercial customers.

The new rate will change on July 1.

Officials say AMP’s rates will still average approximately 16.5 percent lower than those in neighboring communities.

AMP says a typical residential customer with an average bill of $63 can expect to see an increase of $2 to the monthly bill.

The percentage of the increase will vary depending on the customer’s rate class.

Residential customers will see an increase of up to 2.9 percent.
