WEAVERVILLE, Calif. (AP) – A 1,000-acre wildfire in rural Northern California hasn’t shown major growth, but it remained uncontained amid warm and windy conditions.
The lightning-sparked blaze broke out in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest about halfway between Eureka and Redding, where temperatures are in the 90s Friday and expected to stay the same through the weekend.
The Trinity County Sheriff’s Department has ordered an evacuation of homes along one rural road, though it wasn’t clear how many houses or people were affected.
The U.S. Forest Service says 17 helicopter and two air tankers are helping about 200 firefighters take on the wildfire.
The fire that started Tuesday is the largest of many lightning-sparked blazes in the area.
