The California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Law Enforcement Division is now taking up the investigation of a dead great white shark.
The shark washed up on the shore of Beer Can Beach in Aptos on Sunday morning.
Marine biologists estimated the 500-pound great white was about 5-years-old.
The shark had several puncture wounds and scars. At first, biologists thought the wounds were from feeding on sea lions.
However, after receiving the lab’s necropsy results of the shark, Fish and Wildlife is handing the investigation to their Law Enforcement Division.
Officials would not say what the lab testing revealed, only that based on what they saw, this is a job for law enforcement officers.
