Traffic was jammed on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge for emergency road repairs.

According to Bob Haus with Caltrans, crews have been working all week to replace joints on the troubled bridge after reports of falling cement.

Caltrans installed a metal plate across the bridge deck to allow traffic through.

Crews secured the metal plate in place with bolts, but an engineer who was inspecting the work noticed that the bolts were loose, Haus said

The agency had to close both the upper and lower deck of the bridge to tighten the bolts.

Out of an abundance of caution, several lanes were closed but have since reopened.

Officials haven’t provided an estimated time to reopen the lanes.
