LAGUNA BEACH (AP) – The Laguna Beach Police Department is searching for those who contaminated the water at a sea lion rehab center with chlorine.
The Los Angeles Times reports that police believe someone put chlorine in the water filtration system last week at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, which works to rescue, rehabilitate and release sea lions.
The chlorine got into one of the facility’s saltwater pools and 15 of the 17 sea lions from that area had swollen eyes. Of those, seven continue to receive veterinary treatment. The sea lions in that pool were set to be released the next day, none have been released. All are expected to recover from their injuries.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity around the center to call Laguna Beach detectives.
