A popular bakery in the Mission District shuts down on Tuesday after being in business for decades.
At 9 p.m. on Tuesday, La Victoria Mexican Bakery and Cafe permanently closed its doors on the corner of 24th Street and Alabama Street.
They have been in business for 67 years.
The new owners of the building are now evicting the bakery owners forcing them to close.
Due to the closing, locals and La Victoria regulars walked out with bags full of pastries and bread.
Customers in the bakery were commenting on how sad it was that the location was shutting down.
Some were reminiscing about working nearby the bakery in the 60’s and came in every day for a treat.
“Everyday my boss and I always had to have a merienda time and I’d go out and buy us some Mexican buns every day for a snack in the office,” one customer remembers.
A sign on the door indicated that the bakery will continue baking bread at 2365 3rd Street near the 22nd Street intersection in the Dogpatch District.
This new location will only be a kitchen and not a sit-down cafe.
Though they will still take orders for the ‘Day of the Dead’ and ‘Three Kings Day.’
