MONTEREY COUNTY (BCN) — A Salinas man pled guilty in Monterey County Wednesday to several charges, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s office.
Prosecutors said on Sept. 18, 30-year-old Ernesto Manzano, a known Sureno gang member, threatened to kill his then girlfriend and took her vehicle.
Two days later, officers located Manzano sitting in a vehicle in the area of De La Torre Boulevard in Salinas.
According to prosecutors, Manzano accelerated at a high rate of speed once he realized police had seen him, and rammed the front of the officer’s vehicle.
He then fled on foot and avoided arrest.
Prosecutors said officers were able to locate Manzano at a house in Salinas on Nov. 5 and took him into custody. During booking, sheriff’s deputies found methamphetamine hidden in Manzano’s sock.
Manzano pled guilty to battery on a peace officer, domestic violence, and brining drugs into the county jail. He will be sentenced to seven years and four months in a state prison.
