LAFAYETTE (KRON) — An African breed of honeybees, also known as killer bees, has made its way into the Bay Area.

UC San Diego researchers have been tracking the bees’ movement throughout the state. Until now, the bees had only been detected as far north as Mariposa County.

Now, apparently because of warmer temperatures, they have been found in a Lafayette subdivision.

The bees are known to be deadly because of their swarming, aggressive nature when a colony is threatened.

It is not clear just how many of the bees are in the area.
