The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District wrapped up fire prevention week with its second annual open house.

Families and young children got to play firefighter for a day and learned from some of the best.

One mother said her children were full of excitement, “they’re gonna bug me forever to go to another fire station and another fire station, but I think they’ll remember this.”

All of the fire protection district’s tools were on display, from the boats used for water rescues to the trucks and ladders used to enter burning buildings and save lives.

“This is a chance for us to show them what their tax money is actually going to,”  said Contra Costa Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Robert Marshall.

It was the district’s second annual open house. Last year’s event was canceled because of heavy smoke from the deadly North Bay Fires.
