SONOMA COUNTY (KRON) — A kayaker heading down to the Russian River spotted a dead man in the water Monday afternoon near Healdsburg Veterans Memorial Beach, Sonoma County sheriff’s officials said.
The 62-year-old Pacifica man was found dead around 1:15 p.m., Sgt. Spencer Crum said.
The man was wearing a T-shirt, shorts, flip-flop shoes and was clutching a bucket, sheriff’s Sgt. Ed Hoener said.
Responders found keys in the man’s pocket and matched them to a vehicle in a parking lot at Badger Park. He was identified as Gennady Liubimsky after his next of kin were notified Tuesday morning, Crum said.
There appears to be nothing suspicious about Liubimsky’s death, Crum said.
The sheriff’s helicopter Henry-1 responded to the death and the recovery of the body, according to Crum.Bay City News contributed to this report
