SACRAMENTO (KRON) — It’s official, California Attorney General and former San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris is running for the U.S. Senate.
Harris made the announcement Tuesday morning on her campaign web site.
“I’m excited to share with you that I’m launching my campaign to represent the people of California in the United States Senate,” Harris writes on the site. “Your support has been crucial to me every step of the way, and I’m asking you to help me build a grassroots campaign that reaches every community of California.”
Harris hopes to replace longtime Senator Barbara Boxer who announced last week that she would not seek re-election in 2016.
