(KRON/CNN) — JCPenney has changed its holiday coupon policy, which has caused lots of confusion for customers.

The retailer usually hands out coupons at the door on Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

These coupons have discounts up to $500.

But they can only be used after black Friday sales.

This year, no coupons were handed today.

Instead, they were handed out Thursday and again Friday.

JCPenney says it changed this because it started having deals on Thanksgiving through Black Friday.

The change caused so much confusion that the company had to take to Twitter to explain the new system.

JCPenney has been struggling to compete with online retailers.

It lost $242 million during the first six months of this fiscal year and closed 127 stores during the second quarter, more than 10 percent of its locations.WHAT OTHERS ARE CLICKING ON:
