OAKLAND (KRON) — Video circulating today shows Oakland police officers driving towards participants in a sideshow taking place on city streets.
Even the person recording the clip began running at one point out of the fear that they might be hit by an officer.
This all went down early Sunday morning at International and 42nd Street. That’s in Oakland City Councilmember Noel Gallo’s district.
Gallo was quick to react to this video.
“I’m not supporting sideshows, it’s insanity what we are trying to do here,” said Gallo. “When I saw the police vehicles almost hitting the public or those watching the sideshow that was concerning or alarming.”
On Wednesday the tire marks from the sideshow could still be seen on the new pavement.
Gallo says he has reached out to Oakland Police and they tell him an investigator has been assigned to the case.
“We should not have a sideshow on our streets and people continue to break the rules,” he said. “What I saw came close to running people over.” now there is a hope from Gallo that this will be a learning moment going forward.
