Investigators say ‘no indication’ children lived in Hart family home

The mystery behind the death of a family whose SUV plunged off a California cliff might never be solved.

The two mothers and six adopted children disappeared in March.

Their SUV was later found off the coast in Mendocino County along with five bodies.

Investigators say Jennifer Hart was driving drunk and the crash was intentional.

Recently, authorities searched the family’s home as they investigate the deadly crash.

Investigators say their home looked as if no children lived there.

“I wouldn’t say it was a surprise but it wasn’t necessarily what you’d expect in a house that had 6 children,” said Sgt. Brent Waddell of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say rooms weren’t personalized and they didn’t find many kids’ clothing or toys.

Sgt. Waddell also said the condition of the house raised questions for investigators.

“Where did the kids live, what part of the house did they live in, what sort of regimen or what was going on behind the house,” he said. “Those types of questions came up because it wasn’t what you would term a house that had kids in it or it didn’t appear that way.”

A laptop and iPad were recovered and handed over to the FBI.

“Nothing that jumps out as a motive,” Sgt. Waddell said. “There was no notes, no journals, there was nothing that would indicate why they would do that.”

Investigators are still searching for blood relatives of Hannah Hart to help identify human remains that were found.

So far, no relatives have come forward.
