OAKLAND (KRON) — Oakland police helped arrest a 19-year-old inmate who walked away from a North Coast camp where inmates participate in a conservation program, Lt. Aaron Yderraga said.

Darius Louis was arrested on Thursday morning at around 11 a.m. in Oakland. Police officers and corrections officers made the arrest.

Louis left the Alder Conservation Camp in Del Norte County on Monday, Yderraga said.

Correctional officials said Louis, who was serving time on a grand theft conviction out of Lake County, will now be transferred to the California Correctional Center in Susanville.

He will not be eligible for another conservation camp like the one he was housed at. He was originally scheduled to be released on March 9, 2020.Bay City News contributed to this report
